  18. Step 1 - Cutting the track
  19. Attaching the track to a wooden batten, instead of
  20. directly to the wall, will make it sturdier. When you
  21. cut the track be sure to leave enough distance to
  22. completely draw the curtains back  from the window. You
  23. will need the curtains ready to do this.

  25. Step 2 - Marking the batten height
  26. Measure 75mm up from the window. Use a spirit level to
  27. mark a line horizontally from this point. This is the
  28. line on which you will place the top edge of the batten.

  30. Step 3 - Preparing the batten
  31. Prepare a batten  50mm by 25mm of smooth sawn wood by
  32. cutting it to the correct length to correspond with your
  33. track. Drill two to four holes spaced along the batten at
  34. regular intervals for the batten mounting screws.

  36. Step 4 - Marking the batten
  37. Bisect the batten with a line lengthways. Mark the
  38. position of the brackets on the line with a bradawl. Put
  39. one 50mm from each end, then space the others
  40. approximately 250mm apart.

  42. Step 5 - Attaching the brackets
  43. You can now screw the curtain brackets into the batten.
  44. Because they are attached to the wood they will easily
  45. take the weight of the curtains.

  47. Step 6 - Attaching the batten
  48. Mark and drill the appropriate holes in the wall and
  49. attach the batten.

  51. Step 7 - Attaching the track
  52. Attach the track to the brackets as directed by the
  53. manufacturerÆs instructions.
